Course Description
Goals: Introduce students to the myriad ways individuals find their access to justice compromised by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, race, class, and gender. Content: Centered on criminal and legal justice, the course begins with an exploration of the term “justice.” Using a variety of print and digital media as well as hearing from guest speakers, we will explore issues such, though not limited to, access to legal representation, the role of the judiciary, retributive vs. restorative justice, and wrongful convictions. Prerequisite of SOC 1110 or instructor's permission required.
