Course Description
This course will provide an introduction to the emerging issues as religious traditions grapple with evolving understandings of gender and sexuality. Fresh insights offered by science and changing societal views are challenging the ways we think religiously and theologically about embodiment, ecstasy, and otherness. We will explore these issues through readings, journaling, blackboard, and engaged conversation in a seminar style class. Course topics will include: current understandings of human sexuality; religious views—traditional and contemporary—on sexuality and embodiment; religious responses to otherness—and othered (LGBTIQ) voices now speaking within religion; prospects and perils on the present horizon.
