Course Description
A children's playroom patrolled by vultures and lions. A boy who causes it to thunder just by running down the street. A planet that never stops raining. How did Ray Bradbury come up with these and many other story ideas? What do the stories themselves tell us about . . . us? What are the metaphors at work in his fiction? The first half of this class will be all Bradbury, all the time. We'll read some of his stories and essays; we'll think critically about the thematic issues central to his work; and we'll follow his advice to writers. Then, in the second half, we'll create stories and essays of our own. This class offers students the chance to hone their critical reading skills and develop their own writing processes.
