Course Description

This seminar provides a comprehensive understanding of the most influential movements and trends in the social, political, religious, and cultural arenas of the region. Focusing specifically on the Arab World, the course will explore several key themes in Middle East Studies, including: the emergence of the Modern Middle East, the intellectual currents of the last century (including nationalism, socialism, pan-Arabism, Baathism), and the Islamic political movements emerging from the past century to the present.
