Course Description
Goals: To understand the key characteristics that shaped the evolution of China both regionally and globally from ancient times to the present. Content: Various topics such as revolutionary and reformist tendencies, globalisation, the social role of students and intellectuals, the rise of Communist governance, democracy, the status of women, imperialism, market reforms, and nationalism. Taught: Annually Note: Topics and time periods covered vary from year to year. Recent examples: The Challenge of Reform and Revolution in China’s Past and Present; Continuity and Change in China’s Imperial Past. Credits: 4 credits
