Course Description

This course is one of two courses on literacy methods in the elementary classroom. This course focuses on culturally relevant literacy practices for students in an elementary classroom environment. In this course, you will gain knowledge of literacy practices and systems to use in the school and classroom to create literate environments that foster literacy development, culturally relevant/sustaining practices, and critical literacy engagement. Additionally, through a clinical field experience, you will observe, analyze, engage, and co-teach in an elementary literacy classroom.
