Course Description

Goals: To introduce students to the history, theory, pedagogy, and management of teaching second-language learners in K-12. This course provides ESL and world language candidates with a foundation in best practice literacy instruction for K-12 students. First in a two-course sequence. Content: The nature of literacy in a second language; research on teaching and learning in these areas; and the motivation, engagement, and management of K-12 students. This course includes 30 hours of clinical experience outside of scheduled class time - dates, times, and school sites to be determined. Target audience: K-12 ESL and World Language licensure candidates Taught: Fall term only Recommended Prerequisites: EDU 1150/GED 7815, EDU 1250/GED 7825, EDU 3260/GED 7867 Credits: 4
