Course Description
We will examine over the course the central themes, theories, concepts, and questions of the contemporary study of democracy and democratization across different countries in the world. The objective is to acquire a basic knowledge of the basic concerns and approaches of the field. These will prove vital for an understanding of how political institutions, actors, and processes affect society, culture, and the economy, which in turn shapes the movement that drives democratization across countries. A core objective in this course is to facilitate and/or cultivate a sense of critical awareness of the democratization movement in the world, both around us and beyond our own.
