Course Description
Methods for Teaching Theatre and Dance is a preparatory course for individuals who are intending to obtain the K-12 license in Theatre and Dance or for artists who are interested in working in the schools. The course addresses the objectives outlined in Minnesota Rule Chapter 8710.4300 subpart 3. Using readings, discussion and practical experiences the course participants will explore instructional methods, lesson construction standards, assessment planning and the realities of theatre and dance program operation. THTR 5700 is cross listed with GED 7882 – There is an important distinction: If you are intending to obtain a K-12 teaching license you will need to take the two course methods sequence - GED 7857 (fall term) and GED 7882 (spring term). GED 7882 includes a 30 hour practicum in the schools. If you are planning to complete the Artist in the Schools certificate or have a general interest in teaching theatre and/or dance you should register for this course of study as THTR 5700. Individuals interested in the Artist in the Schools certificate should review the requirements for that program. Prerequisite: Junior or senior status required
