Course Description
This course examines the traditions of philosophical reflection by Islamic thinkers, from the classical Islamic Golden Age of the 9th to 12th centuries CE (2nd to 5th centuries AH) to the modern day. We will examine the diverse array of moral, scientific, political, psychological, epistemological, and theological topics that have been written about and discussed by Islamic thinkers (including al-Kindi, al-Farabi, Ibn Sina, al-Ghazzali, Ibn Rushd, Mulla Sadra, and others) from the earliest origins of Islam, to the engagement of Islamic intellectuals and philosophers with the contemporary world.
