Course Description

What could be better than a workshop with Katie Ray or with Lester Laminack? A workshop with both! Don't miss one of the finest and certainly most engaging workshops ever held at Hamline. Lester Laminack and Katie Ray enjoy a dedicated following not only at Hamline but across the country. They combine gifted presentation styles with grounded, credible information on setting up and managing the writing workshop. Both are accomplished authors on the teaching of reading and writing; they have co-authored The Writing Workshop: Working Through the Hard Parts (And They're All Hard Parts) NCTE. Lester and Katie will spend a short time together with the whole class, and then divide the class into two groups, working a half-day with each. In one group, participants will engage as writers themselves, led by Lester. Meanwhile, Katie will facilitate the curriculum development group, where participants will plan their own writing unit based on their own writing experiences. This very first time offering from Katie and Lester together should not be missed by anyone looking for the best in literacy education. Target audience: teachers K-12.
