Abstract

This project answers the question: What impact does flexible seating have on student engagement in the second grade classroom at a Chinese immersion school? The focus of this capstone project was to create a series of presentations that would be presented during district professional development days. The purpose of this project was to help Chinese immersion educators have a better understanding of flexible seating and be able to use this physical setting to perfect their teaching. Many different research studies were reviewed to explore this project. The research focuses on the areas of flexible seating, Chinese immersion, student learning environments, and student engagement. The major learnings, limitations, and benefits to educators are addressed. The conclusion of this project highlights the benefits of using flexible seating in a Chinese immersion elementary school
