Abstract
Across the U.S. there has been an increase of English language learners in the student population. These students receive reading instruction alongside their native English speaking peers. This capstone was developed to answer the question, what are effective strategies for developing early literacy skills for English language learners (ELL)? Research concludes that there are specific instructional strategies for each early literacy skill that may enhance English language learners reading development. The results of this capstone were used to create a professional development to inform educators of effective instructional strategies for developing English language learners reading skills.
