Abstract
This capstone project sought to answer the research question: How can using Multicultural Education and Culturally Relevant teaching practices enhance the language growth and participation of English Language Learners in the classroom? The focus of the project was to gather research about these important pedagogies and draw connections to EL learners and their language acquisition and participation. The author highlights how these important educational frameworks support English language learners in the mainstream classroom. The project is an hour long professional development session designed for classroom teachers. This session helped to grow their understanding around multicultural education and culturally relevant teaching as best practices to support their English language learners.
