Abstract
The research question addressed in this project was, how could I create a project based learning unit to help third grade students develop 21st Century Skills in a Chinese immersion school? The purpose of this project is to help Chinese immersion teachers with a guidance in designing and implementing project based learning (PBL) instead of starting from scratch. The capstone provides a definition, benefits, challenges of project based learning, and the importance of integrating 21st century skills into project based learning. The author documented the process of creating a project based learning unit on social studies for third grade classroom. She explained the limitations and implication of creating her project based learning unit, and concluded the importance of the problem of PBL and driving questions. She also explained how her unit matched 21st century skills in critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration. The capstone project worked on filling the gaps of integrating project based learning unit at elementary level in Chinese immersion schools
