Abstract
This project examines how digital tools can be integrated into elementary-level English instruction by Fulbright English Teaching Assistants (ETAs) in Taiwan. The project was guided by two questions: How can Fulbright English Teaching Assistants effectively integrate digital tools into elementary school level English instruction, and what are the perceived benefits and challenges for teachers using these tools? A review of literature on the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program, Taiwan’s Bilingual 2030 policy, and technology integration in English language instruction informed the development of a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Advisor professional development workshop for ETAs and their Local English Teachers (LETs) in Taiwan. The literature indicates that technology can support student engagement, collaboration, interaction, and active use of English, while also causing challenges related to teacher confidence, access to reliable technology, and technical support. In response, the project proposes a hands-on workshop introducing digital tools, including Padlet and Nearpod, through demonstrations and collaborative activities. The project concludes that practical, focused professional development can support ETAs and LETs in adopting technology purposefully into English instruction and has the potential to strengthen local implementation of Taiwan’s Bilingual 2030 goals. However, because the workshop has not yet been implemented, its effectiveness remains to be evaluated through participant feedback and future classroom application
