Abstract

Addressing the needs of every student within an elementary mathematics classroom is a difficult and time-consuming task that educators are charged with. The range of abilities in a general education classroom can span multiple grade levels, especially in upper elementary. Teachers are often encouraged to focus on students that are below grade level, which can lead to higher ability students being bored and disengaged when they are in the classroom (Livers et al., 2018). To address this issue, this capstone project seeks to answer the question of how can elementary classroom teachers best support their advanced learners in math after they have demonstrated proficiency in the standard(s) of focus? Along with research on differentiation, content acceleration, and enrichment, this capstone includes a website for elementary classroom teachers. The website includes various resources and activities that are aligned with Minnesota third-grade math standards that teachers can easily access for their advanced learners. This project aims to assist teachers in finding appropriate resources for their gifted students, and also address the needs of those students within the classroom. The ultimate goal is that educators will save time by utilizing this website so that they can use their time more efficiently, and continue to address the needs of other students within their classroom. With this time saved, more students will be given the tools and opportunity to achieve at high levels.
