Abstract
The research question addressed in this project was, what curriculum should be taught in the sixth grade general music classroom? The motivating factor for this capstone was not only the lack of published curriculum for the middle school general music classroom, but also the lack of published professional articles surrounding this topic. The author surveyed a sixth grade general music class as well as a group of seasoned general music teachers regarding what they thought should be taught in general music class. This capstone documents the details and results of these studies. This capstone also details the creation of a differentiated learning Rock and Roll unit using the Backwards Approach of Understanding by Design by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe (2005).
