Abstract

The research question addressed in this capstone is, how can I develop a service learning curriculum that educates secondary students on fair trade? The author uses Understanding by Design (UbD) as the curriculum model and framework upon which the seven week curriculum is designed. The author looks at current trends in secondary curriculum that could hinder or help the creation of the curriculum. Also, the author looks at what the experts are saying about service learning as a teaching method, UbD as a curriculum model and how fair trade is being used in our society and classrooms. This capstone was designed with enough structure to guide teachers through seven weeks of learning but also open enough so teachers can adapt it to the needs of the classroom.
