Abstract

The research question addressed is, what are the benefits of an intergenerational service learning project for students, senior citizens, and their community? The author implements an intergenerational oral history service-learning project into a middle school social studies curriculum for the first time. The goal for students is to become more engaged in their learning by interviewing senior citizens about living during the Cold War Era. The community need is to develop relationships between the students and senior citizens. The author then identifies the benefits based on observation and analysis of participant questionnaires and suggests future research on the topic.
