Abstract
The research question addressed in this project was: How do educators who have completed the Beyond Diversity program describe their ability to provide professional development for teachers at their schools? It documents a focus group conducted with four teachers who have gone through the program. The primary influence was the author's experience going through the Beyond Diversity program several years earlier. The paper juxtaposes the research about staff development in general with staff development that effectively targets race, equity, and the achievement gap. The paper is generally organized around the 12 Standards of Effective Staff Development, as stated by the National Staff Development Council. The author found that even after going through the Beyond Diversity training, participants did not feel confident in their ability to provide professional development for teachers at their schools.
