Abstract
This capstone addresses the question how do elementary teachers describe social justice education in their classrooms? It comes out the author's own interest and experience with social justice education as an elementary teacher. To address the research question the author interviewed four elementary education teachers using phenomenological research methods. The results indicate a basic use of social justice education, especially the community building and social emotional components and a need to further develop teachers' understanding of academic rigor and high standards as a crucial aspects of social justice education.
