Abstract
This capstone research investigated the effectiveness of the Anticipation Guide in a seventh grade classroom on creating interest and motivation while being culturally responsive. Through an observational checklist conducted during a classroom observation followed by surveys collected from a random participant group, the Anticipation Guide was tested to determine its impact on student interest at the beginning of a science lesson and its ability to foster motivation to participate throughout the remainder of the class. Despite limitations encountered during the research, this study revealed the positive impact an Anticipation guide can have on creating interest and motivation in a seventh grade classroom as a culturally responsive teaching strategy.
