Abstract
As a new teacher, I saw a need for a project designed for the general education teacher to learn specific strategies for developing better educational experiences for gifted students. In researching the experience of teaching gifted students in the inclusive classroom, I learned about several strategies that augment education. The tactics included in my study are: curriculum compacting, contracting between teacher and student, and using higher level thinking skills. Research indicates that when teachers use these strategies in the classroom, learning experiences are improved. I developed and presented a sample unit to two teachers in gifted education. As subjects in my study, I interviewed them for their judgment on the reliability and effectiveness of my project. They concurred that it would be valuable and effective in creating richer learning experiences. By focusing on these findings and modeling beneficial strategies, inclusive classroom teachers can be better prepared for gifted students.
