Abstract
The research question addressed in this project was, does blended learning (the integration of a teacher-moderated component with communicative exercises in a self-study unit) lead to oral proficiency in the task? The author documents the details of the unit and uses related research literature to construct meaning and validate the study. The task involved was giving business presentations before and after using the blended learning approach in an online learning environment over a course of two teacher-moderated sessions and an independent learning session. Content and organization, accuracy, coherence and fluency were all measured using an adapted version of the CEFR (Common European Framework for Foreign languages). The result showed increased the highest score content and organization, followed by fluency and coherence, with no improvement in accuracy.
