Abstract
The research question for this action research project was, what is the effect of (or relationship between) outdoor active recess on (and) student behavior? It compares student behavioral data collected during a two-week outdoor active recess period with data collected during a two-week indoor inactive recess period. The author analyzed the data by infraction, grade and gender while using research literature to construct meaning and validate the study. Findings showed that twice as many office discipline referrals were issued when the students had an inactive inside recess rather than an active outside recess.
