Abstract
The purpose of the research in this document was to help answer the question: How can students in a third grade French immersion classroom express the vocabulary they need to participate fully in a Writer’s Workshop? It presents research done to support students in the English as a Second Language Classroom in the Writer’s Workshop as well as research in second language writing. Primary research was conducted on a group of third grade students writing in an immersion classroom. The primary research suggests that allowing students to use codeswitching as a tool for scaffolding second language writing will help students to participate fully in the Writer’s Workshop.
