Abstract
The research question addressed in this project was, how can critical literacy strategies engage and deepen the thinking of secondary English Learners? The motivating factor for this capstone was to develop higher levels of thinking and to move beyond comprehension for all levels of English Learners. The author documents the details of the implementation of critical literacy strategies during the following phases: pre-teaching, text set implementation, and post teaching reflection in a secondary English Learner classroom. The author found that if given the tools that critical literacy strategies offer, all students can be engaged and think critically about a variety of texts, no matter the language level.
