Abstract

This capstone discusses the effect a community can have on students in a middle school Reader's Workshop classroom. Research focuses on Reader's Workshop, Community in the Classroom, and Middle School Students as Readers. A curriculum was designed to answer the capstone question including community-intensive activities designed to build community from the beginning of the school year. This curriculum and additional Reader's Workshop materials are included.
