Abstract
The research question addressed in this project was how does family educational involvement correlate with elementary students' reading engagement? The author synthesizes current research and theory in the areas of family educational involvement and student reading engagement. Many factors spur the author's desire to conduct research on the correlation between these two major fields in education. Her methodology includes family interviews, teacher observation forms, and student observation field notes. The participants include nine elementary students with their parents and teachers. From her study, she concludes that there is not enough evidence to support a strong correlation between the level of family educational involvement and the level of reading engagement in the classroom. However, some smaller findings are noted with suggestions for future research and strategies to improve family educational involvement and students' reading engagement in schools.
