Abstract
The research and curriculum presented in this capstone highlight the importance of early reading intervention for kindergarten students, specifically in the area of phonemic awareness. The literature reviewed includes researchers such as Armbruster, Allington, Blevins, Richardson, and Yopp et al. In addition, the importance of phonemic awareness in reading acquisition is emphasized and eight different phonemic awareness skills are highlighted. The curriculum focuses on these eight skills and is intended to provide explicit intervention to kindergarten students struggling with phonemic awareness.
