Abstract

Research is a growing field in immersion education. However, there is still much to learn in motivating second language learners in the immersion environment. Research shows that 21st Century tools can be one way to engage students in dialogue across the world. The author investigated students' use of the social media tool VoiceThread to see how it would motivate her kindergarteners to speak more Spanish. Results showed that VoiceThread's with peers in Spain increased cultural awareness. Kindergarteners used VoiceThread successfully to communicate across borders.
