Abstract
This study examined the use of a computer based tool, SMART board, to aid in teaching English Language Learners (ELLs) enrolled in kindergarten to read along with a computer based website, Starfall. Seven ELL kindergartners participated in the six week study their language backgrounds varied and all had an intermediate English proficiency. Data was collected using the methods of running records, comprehension questions, and basic computer checklists. The main finding was that students who did not have high accuracy rates in reading had the most difficulty in reading, but they did not always have difficulty in the comprehension of a story. Elementary language instructors are encouraged to use multiple ways to teaching reading for every story.
