Abstract
This study focused upon implementing a curriculum in a high school level theater arts class that offered students the opportunity to gain greater insights about themselves based upon theater activities designed to help each student recognize their contributions both as individuals in the classroom and their community beyond the high school setting. The primary objective of the groups projects were to work together as a team in collaboration and write a one-act play through a series of steps, for example, improvisational theater, using theater devices towards an end product of meeting that goal. Students responded well to the idea, not without some adversity. In this study it is clear that using theater as a device for teaching greater awareness and social acceptability is possible in the environment of a theater classroom.
