Abstract
The research question addressed in this project was, how can differentiation of instruction in kindergarten increase students' literacy achievement? The motivating factor for this capstone was to show that teachers that differentiate their literacy instruction help all children reach their potential in reading and writing. This capstone details different ways to differentiate literacy instruction utilizing both small group and individual instruction, and the use of various assessments. Key influence for this capstone was the research of Jerry Johns, Fountas and Pinnel, and McGill-Franzen, which helped me greatly in writing this paper.
