Abstract
This research addresses the question: What specific reading strategies motivate reluctant fourth-grade male readers and improve their attitudes toward reading? To gather data to answer this question, students responded to an elementary reading attitude survey and a semantic differential, and they participated in individual reading conferences. A guy-friendly classroom library was developed, and alternative activities were employed which included technology, book talks, and read alouds. Implementation of the study is discussed and the results are analyzed. In the concluding chapter, the author discusses limitations and implications of the study, and makes suggestions for future research.
