Abstract
The research question in this study was, what teaching practices can I implement to motivate intermediate students to enjoy reading and ultimately become lifelong readers? Motivating students to enjoy reading is a goal for many teachers. Research indicates that conversations about books are a means to motivate students to read and enjoy reading. Through surveys, independent reading rubric self-assessment, independent home reading log, and observation log, data was collected and analyzed to determine the impact conversations about books has on students' motivation to read. Through this action research project it was determined that conversations about books does have a positive impact on students' motivation to read and to enjoy reading.
