Abstract
The modern classroom embodies an inclusionary model that blends students with special needs into the regular education population. Classroom teachers, special education and paraprofessionals assist all students in achieving their academic goals throughout the year. This capstone explores the areas of need that mainstream classrooms face in integrating special needs students within the mainstream classroom to ensure that all students have an equal opportunity for success. One specific focus will be to address the role of the paraprofessional within the classroom, including communication and daily duties and routines that contribute to a successful classroom. Lastly, the capstone project highlights a multi quasi research project consisting of surveys and interviews.
