Abstract

The focus for this capstone was: How Using Formative Assessment Can Improve Instruction in Middle School Geography. To answer this question, research was done in the area of formative assessment including authentic assessment, clear objectives, rubrics, feedback and student choice. This research into best practice in formative assessment was then implemented into my classroom. In summary, I found that the various aspects of formative assessment helped student motivation and engagement in the classroom, which led to better academic achievement by students.
