Abstract
The usefulness of technology in assisting teachers with engaging urban 9th grade students in deep thinking and learning in a Geography classroom is the focus of this capstone. The literature review discusses recent literature in the areas of engagement, deep thinking, and technology applications that are used in the classroom. The focus of the project is the development of a technology toolkit that includes technology tools and strategies that would assist a Geography teacher in engaging 9th grade urban students in deep thinking. The toolkit includes descriptions of technology each technology tool, ideas for use in the classroom, and an example of a lesson where it might be used. It also includes a sample unit that incorporates various tools described in the toolkit.
