Abstract
Writing is a fundamental skill necessary for student success. One effective approach to improving writing instruction includes streamlining efforts to utilize common strategies and methods across disciplines. The research includes writing research specific to The Collins Writing Program and the steps to implementing this type of school-wide initiative, specifically focusing on the unique needs of an urban setting. The results use student and staff surveys along with comparison data from the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments.
