Abstract
The research question addressed in this project was, how can I increase parent involvement by reducing barriers in order to increase student achievement in my fourth grade classroom? The motivation for this research was the continuing problem of low parent involvement and the desire to increase communication and collaboration with parents of fourth grade students. A mixed methods research approach using surveys and interviews with parents was designed to investigate which actions a school can take would effectively reduce barriers to parent involvement. The findings from this study showed that an increase in communication and a welcoming school environment would reduce barriers to parent involvement.
