Abstract
The research question addressed is How does my toddler react when given a book containing words and images that describe and depict the people and animals who are central to her life? In answering this question, the project describes the reactions of one toddler over six months time as she is given 11 personalized texts. This study was conducted using a single-study research design in the manor of Lucy Calkins' work Lessons From a Child (1983). The author was aided by the ideas of her capstone committee as well as her husband and peers. The author used journals, audio-visual recordings, and an observation protocol to capture data. Major observations include: a demonstration of interest in personalized books additional layers of comprehension the ability to make connections between books and life and storytelling abilities.
