Abstract
The research question explored in this capstone is: What do stakeholders of a professional learning community at the building level believe are the strengths and challenges of professional development implementation? This project documents findings from teachers, students, and parents associated with a suburban elementary school. It discusses both strengths and challenges. It also identifies possible next actions for improving professional development. It draws heavily on the work of Thomas Guskey surrounding professional development planning and evaluation, and Rick DuFour's work involving Professional Learning Communities. It incorporates the standards developed by the National Staff Development Council. This work provides insights and implications useful for staff developers, principals, and teacher leaders.
