Abstract
The research question in this capstone is: in what ways does an inquiry project on the meaning of education impact the perceptions of habitually truant, Hispanic, high school students? The study and following paper resulted from difficulties with attendance and the students' perception of the importance of school. The literature review showed support for intervention as truancy is a predictor of academic failure and increased school dropout rates. The study consisted of four senior high, Hispanic students. The students were guided through activities, discussions, and interviews in completing their inquiry project. The results showed the inquiry project did make a difference on the meaning of education for the students.
