Abstract

The research question addressed in this project was, how will direct instruction of research based comprehension strategies improve achievement scores of fourth grade students? The main motivating factor for this capstone was the author's professional frustration with low reading achievement scores of fourth grade students. This capstone details direct instruction of research based comprehension strategies used with a reading group of fifteen fourth grade students. Students were highly motivated and actively engaged in the strategy instruction.
