Abstract
The research question addressed in this capstone was what are effective dialogic reading strategies, applied to specific texts, and its impact on young children's social and emotional development? It defined the positive impact dialogic reading strategies has on children's language development (Doyle and Bramwell's, 2006), as well as the connection between reading children's literature and positive social and emotional development (Zeem, 2000). It also explored brain development and the impact stress has on young children's social and emotional development. The culmination of the research led to the development of a resource book for teachers and families, focusing on specific stressful situations (death, divorce, immigration, military families, and poverty) it provided resources for applying dialogic reading strategies to children's literature on these topics with a clear focus on promoting healthy social and emotional development.
