Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the topic of whether student self-assessment can be used to enhance a fourth grade student's motivation to learn. Therefore the research question addressed in this capstone was does student self-assessment have an effect on student motivation? I used collaborative action research to evaluate whether or not my curriculum design was effective. This capstone then documents the data received from two teacher's implementation of this self-assessment curriculum plan over a six week period. The data gained for this curriculum design was quantitative since I obtained data mostly through surveys and test scores. This project also had some qualitative aspects since I also gathered data through observations of students' motivation levels and excitement about math. Key influences included the teachers, students, and our students' families.
