Abstract
The research question addressed is, how can you integrate differentiated strategies into the reading workshop? The motivating factor for this capstone was the need to teach a diverse group of students, and try and meet their individual needs. This capstone defines the components of differentiation and the components of the reading workshop, and how the two works together to create a teaching and learning environment that fits the needs of all children in the classroom. It documents one teacher's development of a beginning of the year unit that focuses on preparing student for the reading workshop, while meeting individual needs through differentiation. It integrated differentiation of process, content, learning environment, and product, as well as learning style and interests.
