Abstract
Teachers make a huge difference in the lives of their students. Public education is only as good as the public that it serves. What does it mean to be responsible for public education? I believe responsibility is the missing ingredient in education today. Society today lacks the sense of the greater good that in former years was present. In contrast to these statements parents and communities that are involved and act responsibly toward public schools see their schools thrive. The data showed that parents that rated their schools as high performing schools were more likely to support their school's referendum. Financial support is only one of many ways parents act responsibly. The roles of teachers, students and parents will be examined. So, what does it mean to be responsible for public education? I believe this means that we all need to do our part. It also means that we need to redefine ourselves and our communities.
